Drama in three acts (prologue and epilogue)

Dora Mayhew - a typical “old maid”- falls in love for the first time, but she is being outmanoeuvred by another woman and is now thinking about committing suicide using morphine. By mistake the man takes the poison, and the other woman is accused of the murder, after which Dora succeeds in killing herself. This apparent melodramatic action is retold by a young man who has Dora’s confidence and afterwards feels remorse for not having told the police about the true circumstances.
The structure of the play is nightmarishly unreal, whilst giving the impression of ordinary daily life it lends an ingenious quality to the drama. The description of the background
and of the leading character is fabulous. It is a dream-role for a middle-aged actress.
