In a theatre in Sct. Petersburg a cast of actors are rehearsing on a play about the disruption and tragic destiny of the Zar-family. A family in which the widow, Maria Feodorovna, and the earlier Danish princess, Dagmar, are placed in the middle. The old zar dies and his son, Nikolaj the II, has to take over the throne even though he doesn’t feel ready to take on the heavy responsibility. Tradition and the dominating mother, Maria, forces the doubting Nikolaj to take over the throne and seal the family destiny. As the rehearsals move forward on stage, the doubt and questions come off on the actors, who, rooted in the so called modern Russia, are trying to understand the past. First performance at Folketeateret.dk, Copenhagen, 2010.
