This play is a stylistic and absurd description of a nightmare. Andreas arrives in an unknown city without remembering from where he came. Everything has been prepared for his arrival – a job, clothes and a flat. He adjusts quickly as he is a polite and controlled man, and shortly after he has a wife as well. However there is something that is not right. They are all strangely numb. He sees a man commit suicide by throwing himself out of a building. The next day he sees the same man who is unharmed. Constantly administrators are cleaning up and hiding all that does not fit into the well-functioning city. He discovers that in fact he has walked into an after-life existence and attempts to flee from it. But there is no way out of the city. It is a pessimistic vision of hell with sharp and black humour. The play won the Ibsen prize in 2004 and has been made into a movie.
