This is a monologue written as a reaction to Jörg Haiders resignation as chairman of FPÖ. In this monologue Jelinek has combined two texts: Firstly Haiders own declaration of his resignation and secondly the Orestea by Aischylos. This combination makes Haider’s pronouncements look foolish, as he describes his party as the undisputed winner and himself as peoples’ saviour. So according to him, his party stands for victory, joy and optimism while power is belittled together with the quilt over Nazism. Thereafter he concludes that the strong (FPÖ) will reign while the weak (the critics) will pay dearly for their dislike in the party.
It is most certainly a provoking portrait of the slippery Haider.
