The play is set in a mental institution in 1970. A young director, Lewis, is about to make his first production. The only problem is that the players are insane. They want to do an opera, even though there is no orchestra and no one can sing. One of the Mozart fanatics, Roy, is very determined. Against all odds the mayhem of the asylum, Lewis, agrees. He attempts to take the opera on board with the help of the pyromaniac Doug; Julie, an attractive junkie; Ruth, obsessive and compulsive; Cherry, nymphomaniac and Henry; emotionally paralyzed.
