In the autumn of 1941, the German nuclear physicist Werner Heisenberg sought out his colleague and mentor, Niels Bohr in Copenhagen. Earlier on, in the 1920’ies, they had collaborated closely and almost had a father-son relationship. However, there is no evidence as to what lay behind this last meeting and to what happened with Bohr’s wife Margaret, who is also portrayed in the show. Frayn’s play is a fascinating fantasy about the possibilities behind this mysterious reunion. The past is shown in relation to history and eternity. One of the main questions are; what was the truth – or the many possible truths? So philosophical and common human aspects strike sparks between the three actors. The word, as a symbol of passionate intellectual theatre, certainly claims itself superbly in this play.
