Lawrence's first play written in November 1906. The whole play takes place in one room, the hot living-room / kitchen where all the life of the family is concentrated. Ernest comes home from college for the weekend. He needs yet more books his mother can ill afford to buy him. His girlfriend Maggie, whom his family dislikes and his mother is intensely jealous of, visits him.
