‘City of Angels’ is the story about a young author who is working on his first manuscript that he wants to send to a Hollywood producer. His film is similar to the old Humphrey Bogart films about Sam Spade; the amiable, sharp-witted though often unlucky, private detective who, despite the odds, prevails in the end.
Simultaneously with the film plot, we follow the young scriptwriter and his problems with the dippy Hollywood producer who demands rewrite after rewrite, killing nearly all originality in the script. Eventually the detective from the film enters the ‘real’ story just to point out how shallow Hollywood can be and of course to help the author to finish his work.
