The play is based on the difference between the top dog and the underdog. This is illustrated between the assessor and Mr. Schulze. We witness the humiliation of Schulze in the daily life at the office. Our impression is strengthened by the fact that completely “normal” lines are said – Thus, an expression of a routinely behaviour, that no one seems to wonder at any longer. When the rebellion finally takes place and Schulze has the opportunity to get revenge, he draws back and it is not quite clear if it is from “goodness” or if he as an underdog is affected by weakness, causing him to be unable to have his way.
