The Boyfriend is a witty and clever caricature of the Charleston era. It takes place in ca. 1926 at Madame Dubonnet’s posh girls’ school that is happily situated on the French Riviera. A millionaire’s daughter, Polly falls in love with the messenger boy Tony who, as it turns out, is Lord Brockhurst’s son. So in order to keep his attention
Polly pretends to belong to the working class. Though in an attempt to help her, all her equally boy mad girlfriends together with Mme. Dubonnet unfold a line of confusing complications, but then one day Tony’s parents arrive ignorant in Nice…!
All together it is a splendid% 20and jolly musical comedy paying a loving tribute to innocence with a real sense of the high spirits from the1920’ies.
