An American comedy in verse. La ‘Bete’ is a play about the tuff being of the theatre and entertainment business. A baroque comedy and a fight on words, opinions and speech between the elitist and fine cultural theatre manager Élomire and the popular street entertainer Valére. The fight begins when Élomire’s patron, Marquise de Conti, sets up a meeting between the two of them. Valére, has the immediacy and popularity that Élomire lacks. Their personalities are like fire and water and they use all skills to prove, who the biggest artist is. A play about art and comedy. Premiered at Eugene O’Neil Theatre in New York, 1991.
