The story presented in this exhilarating and praised musical takes place in America in the 1950ies, but is equated with the reality shows of today, in which hopeful people attempt to achieve their 15 minutes of fame. The story about the American rock ‘n’ roll championship, hosted by the slick Ray Montelli is told, accompanied by the popular tunes of the time, such as ”Love Me Tender”, ”Great Balls of Fire” and ”Be Bop A Lula”. The show is transmitted live from local TV-stations in the cities where the contests take place. The viewers decide the fate of the singing talents. Will they go on to the finals, or will they be voted out? The hopeful talents realize that the road to fame is a tough one. The media’s humiliation and the dirty tricks of the producers are part of their every-day lives, and this will have great personal consequences for many of the competitors.
