DE BALLADE VAN GARUMA (The ballad of Garuma) is a piece for musical theatre that focuses on the rise and fall of a popular hero. The script is written in the form of a story within a story, with Amaranta as the narrator. She also plays her own role as a character within the narrative. The events are not related chronologically. The script consists of two parts. The first part is about how Fernandez/Garuma is transformed from poor street boy to football hero. The second part shows Garuma’s downfall. The language is everyday street language. The music for the play was written by the acclaimed Dutch composer Guus Ponsioen.
