Taking a starting point in Lewis Carroll’s story, Laura Wade has turned the Victorian Alice into a modern 12-year-old girl, who is gifted with a lively imagination and a very strange family. Her 17-year-old brother, Jow, is dead and everyone is gathered at his funeral. Slowly Alice disappears into the armchair and finds herself in a magical world with rabbit holes, pocket watches and speaking animals. One can either chose to use David Schrubsole’s music, which was written for the premiere in Sheffield or to make their own music to the few song texts. The play premiered at Crucible Studio in 2010.
