The play examines the creative process behind Beethoven’s 33 “Diabelli variations”, (released in 1823 as Beethoven’s “Opus 120”), and follows, at the same time, the musicologist Kathrine Brandt’s search to understand, how come he wrote different variations of such a simple theme by an unknown music producer. The story is played out in both Beethoven’s time and in the present. Furthermore the characters perform across the timetables with simultaneous dialogues, which point out the parallels between the two worlds. First performed on Broadway, starring Jane Fonda, 2009.
