Scott Wentworth

Scott Wentworth has garnered critical acclaim in two countries for his acting and directing, and is now making a multinational reputation for himself as a playwright. His latest play, ENTER THE GUARDSMAN (co-written with Marion Adler and Craig Bohmler), won Denmark's 1996 Musical of the Year, one of the highest-paying awards in worldwide theater. When directing at the Indianapolis Repertory Theater, Wentworth developed a distinctive style based on minimalistic sets and few props, throwing all the focus on the actors. To quote critic Allen Crosset, "Wentworth visualizes... in a sequence of fabulous images using the performers as a painter would use brush strokes." Wentworth himself says, "You've got TV and movies for realism. I want people to know they're in a theater, to get that experience." He has also written the libretto for two musicals, both in cooperation with his wife Marion Adler (lyrics) and Craig Bohmler (music). GUNMETAL BLUES, was called "the best small-scale musical we've seen in a long time" by The New Yorker.
