Robert Stolz

Robert Stolz (1880-1975) was an Austrian composer and conductor. He was the twelfth child of the composer and music manager Jacob Stolz, studies music in Graz, Berlin and Vienna and finished his degree in music in 1896. In 1897 he became an opera conductor at Städische Theater Graz and afterwards conductor in Maribor and in 1902 at Stasttheater Salzburg. In Salzburg he had his debute as a composer the 3th of March 1903 with the operetta Schön Lorchen. From 1905-1917 he was the musical manager for Theater an der Wien, where he was behind numerous of premiers. In the following years he did his military duty, lived in Berlin and went back to Vienna in 1926. Here he wrote 60 operettas, film music and evergreens of which many are known as classics today.
