Özen Yula was born in Eskisehir in 1965. He has a BA from the Economics Department of Hacettepe University in Ankara and an MA in Drama from Ankara University DTCF Department. He lived for a time in New York while writing his final thesis on “Postmodernism”. As a young drama critic, he was chosen to represent Turkey at the Blaye Theatre Festival in Bordeaux, France in 1993. Since 1993, he has written 9 books and his plays have been performed in Cyprus, England and on international tours. “Moon Perturbation / Mondverwirrung” was chosen as the closing night play of the kontext:europe festival in Vienna in 2001. As its playwright, Özen Yula was chosen to represent Turkey at the last ever Bonner Biennale in 2002. Awards: The Afife Jale Cevat Fehmi Baskut Award for Best Playwright, “Moon Perturbation / Mondverwirrung” (2001); Milliyet Awards Haldun Taner Short-Story Award (first-prize), “Trains Loaded with the Past” in “Defective Hearts” (2001).
