Fast-talking Nicky Silver is a Philadelphia native who seemed work in regulation obscurity until rave reviews in 1993 and 1994 pushed him into the spotlight. His hilarious play PTERODACTYLS was produced by the Vineyard Theatre in New York in the fall of '93 (Drama Desk nomination Best Play, Oppenheimer Prize, Best First Play) and was then produced in Boston, Los Angeles, and Denver in '94. United with the Vineyard again in '95 for RAISED IN CAPTIVITY, Nicky caused the New York Times to proclaim it "a cause to celebrate." The play sold out for its extended run the day after the Times review. THE FOOD CHAIN, off-Broadway's comedy hit and Silver's first open-ended run in New York which opened on August 24, 1995, had the critics raving once again. Before PTERODACTYLS Nicky Silver wrote FAT MEN IN SKIRTS which was first produced by the Mammoth Theater in Washington, D.C. The play was a success with the Washington critics and was nominated for 3 Helen Hayes Awards.
