Jon Atli Jonasson was born in Reykjavik in 1972. He dropped out of high school and worked as a fisherman, pizza baker, heavy metal DJ and a roadworker. In 2001 he made his debut as a writer with A BROKEN BEAT - a collection of short stories about a group of people who searches in the snow without finding anything. In 2002 he took part in a playwright’s competition – and won it. Since then, he has mainly written plays. In 2003 he was a part of Royal Court Theatre’s International Residency. In 2004, he was chosen Best Icelandic playwright for the play SURF. Jonasson's plays has been performed in several countries.
