Eileen Atkins

EILEEN ATKINS has achieved success both as an actress and a writer. She has won all of the major British theatre awards and many more in New York, including three Tony nominations. Together with Jean Marsh, she co-created the internationally successful television series UPSTAIRS, DOWNSTAIRS and THE HOUSE OF ELIOT In 1990, Atkins was awarded a C.B.E. (Commander of the British Empire), and most recently she was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame in New York. In 1989, Atkins turned her attention to Virginia Woolf, starring in the one-woman show A ROOM OF ONE’S OWN, which won acclaim for her in London, New York, and wherever she played during the American national tour. For her portrayal of Virginia Woolf, she received the prestigious New York Critics Citation. In 1994, she again won the hearts of American audiences with VITA AND VIRGINIA, the play she based on the letters of Vita Sackville-West and Virginia Woolf.
