Taylor grew up in Southend, Essex. He wrote and performed in the Cambridge University Footlights Revue of 1955 which played in London with great success. He was then invited to join the BBC as a writer-producer on a twelve-month contract. He accepted, and stayed for thirty-six years. Edward's 3214 productions have included many of the BBC's classic series. In the 1990s, Edward resumed writing for the stage. His farce, PARDON ME, PRIME MINISTER - co-authored with John Graham - achieved two national tours and remains a favourite with amateurs. Another farce, A RISE IN THE MARKET, is widely performed throughout Europe. His first Thriller, MURDER BY MISADVENTURE sandwiched a London run between five national tours. PORTRAIT OF FEAR played successfully at the Mill at Sonning.
