Antonio Skármeta

Antonio Skármeta (b. 1940) is a Chilean writer. He is educated in literature and philosophy at Colombia University, New York, where after he settled down in Buenos Aires and then West Berlin. After the end of Pinochet’s military dictatorship in 1989, he returned to Chile in order to fight for the freedom of speech. Through a number of years he hosted a television program on literature and arts, which regularly attracted over a million viewers. From 2000-2003 he served as the Chilean ambassador in Germany and for now he’s teaching literature classes at Colorado College parallel to his authorship.
