INCENDIES revolves around two twins, Simon and Janine, who are summoned to a meeting at the lawyer’s office to hear the last will and testament of their mother. They are handed two letters from the mother; one letter is to be delivered to their brother; the other letter to their father. The mystery commences: Neither of them have ever heard about a brother. They both thought that their father was dead. The letters initiate an unusual journey back into their mother’s past – to a Middle Eastern country ravished by civil war, where their mother was a political activist and later a prisoner of war. The play also depicts the life of Nawal; from her youth to her final years.
