This delightful family play is a heady mix of traditional story
telling, comedy and stage combat. Set in a medieval tavern in London, a
wounded Robin Hood is being held captive by a lone sheriff and the
patrons of the tavern argue as to whether to help Robin Hood or the
Sheriff. They decide to put Robin Hood’s reputation on trial by reenacting
some of the ballads they have heard about him, telling one
ballad where Robin is the people’s champion and another where he is a
cold blooded killer. The ballads also reveal Robin as an inveterate game
player, so when Robin reveals to the patrons that he is London to rescue
Marion from the gallows, it’s hardly surprising to learn, he is playing a
game with them all.
