A perplexed Police Inspector summons Holmes and Watson to the Gothic
country home of Miss Lucy Grendle, to investigate a murder seemingly
committed by an invisible perpetrator. There is tension in the air, not just
because of a suspected ghoul on the prowl, but because Lucy Grendle and
Holmes are known to each other and neither appear best pleased to see
the other again. The investigation progresses with shocks, spills, high
jinks, impossible suspects and diabolical secrets. Holmes and Watson
nearly shoot one another, when the “Invisible Thing” starts to run amok in
the house and they give chase with a gun. Finally the “Invisible Thing” is
revealed, but not before Holmes reveals, he has met an equal.
