Ronald has everything. Privately his wife Kathleen has wonderful news for him. And professionally, he is about to take over the schoolmaster position from Schütz, who is going to retire. Ronald is the ideal teacher: an authentic person, respected and admired – even loved by his students – needed by his colleagues, with good relationships to the parents and much appreciated by his boss. He is charismatic, intelligent and eloquent. But Ronald has a secret inside. A disease that has determined his past and threatens his future. And of course, Ronald too has weaknesses and enemies. A quake announces itself and its shocks suddenly reduce Ronald to nothing.

Based on his autobiographical nove,l DIE WELT IM RÜCKEN, in which he tells of his life as bipolar (manic-depressed), Thomas Melle gives a similar fate to his main character.

Melle poses valid questions about imputability and participation, responsibility and trust, success and reputation. How does a sick and pressured society react if one of its members turns out to be unhealthy for society? What is reality and what is not? Is everything truth or all lies? What are the norms? Who are we? And do you prefer to be a perpetrator or a victim?

The play was nominated for the Mülheimer Dramatikerpreis 2018 and invited to the Heidelberger Stückemarkt 2018
