This is the classical Shakespeare’s tale in a musical version. Unlike ‘Kiss Me Kate’ this musical sticks faithfully to the old Master’s play without any secondary plots.
The action takes place in the lovely town Padua in Northern Italy.
A young apathetic nobleman named Lucentio arrives in town and instantly falls in love with the beautiful Bianca. However, love does not come easy as she has got several wooers and furthermore, her Father, the king of pasta insists that his eldest daughter Katarina is to be married first. Till then he will not hear of any proposals to Bianca.
Then in comes the charming womaniser Petruchio who sees it as his personal challenge to woo and win Katarina and thereby conveniently receive the handsome dowry. But alas, even for a king of the world like Petrchio, Katarina is not easily charmed. Though eventually he manages to tame her, or is it perhaps she who masters him?!
Certainly it is a show rich on intrigues, love and laughter and is seen as one of Shakespeare’s most bubbly and fast comedies.
This musical has an added and entertaining touch of present time, which results in a mixture of lifted self-irony and unpretentiousness that makes it an outmost charming show.
