The play is based on a Norwegian novel on identity and family history. It presents the story about a woman labelled as mentally ill. From the site of a psychiatric hospital the main character, Idun Hov, tells her family history. Her family history counts three generations -from poverty to wealth; conviction of treason and the story of herself considered as being unstable and psychotic because she chose unusual norms of value. Similar to the novel, the text operates in different time levels – 1944, 1951, 1955, 1960, 1976, 1990, 1994 and this turns out to be an important part of the theme: The difficulties involved in expressing experiences.
