The breathtaking nature of an outlying island is the background for the unusual love story of an Irish fisherman, who becomes infatuated with a Welsh woman whom he sees by chance at a wedding. Unaccustomed in the art of writing over a period of a year he courts her through his letters to her. She falls for his ‘primitive’ poetry, but black clouds are threatening to bring it all to an end.
