Mixing Brechtian purpose with the grotesque comedy of Orton, Churchill investigates the right of ownership as it applies to real estate, children, marital relations and your own life. Around the two main characters/principles, the ambitious greed of estate agent Marion and the zen-like indifference of unemployed tenant Alec, a negotiation game takes place involving murder plans, revenge sex, a stolen baby and at least half a dozen failed suicide attempts. Although being Churchill’s first full length play to be staged professionally, this abusive and funny play is younger than its years.
