This is Frayn’s most comic masterpiece. Throughout three acts, a theatre-within-the-theatre performance accelerates before the viewer. A touring theatre company is to perform a traditional farce. However, during the dress rehearsal everything goes wrong and suddenly the actors’ identities and mutual relationships shine through in the performance with a most hilarious effect. It is certainly one of the most successful farces of late.
