There is great joy in the mill pond, because the waterman and his wife have had children and celebrate this with a great feast for all of the relatives. The little waterman soon begins to explore the farthest corners of the mill pond, where he meets many strange creatures, such as the carp Cyprinus, on whose back he can ride, and the gruesome lamprey that haunts him in his dreams.
