Due to an economic crisis Jane Gegenwart goes to Germany and asks his old friend Risto for housing. Risto is a communistic refugee from the former Yugoslavia and Janes stay makes trouble in Risto’s family. Risto’s daughter, Agnes, feels attracted to Jane and her husband chases Jane because of jealousy. The real disaster occurs, when Risto’s wife, Terese, commits suicide, then Risto has to step up and take responsibility for his past and present. He has to admit that he’s no longer the hero, whom both Jane and his own family thought he was. Risto’s escape from Yugoslavia was no heroic deed, but a deal, in which he betrayed his friend.
