Through a series of scenes from Odense, Copenhagen, Rome, Paris and other locations, a big cast guides the audience through the life and the enthralling, complicated and sensitive mind of Hans Christian Andersen. Through music and words, THE UGLY DUCKLING, conveys the author’s life from his birth to the time when he became an honorary citizen in Odense at the age of 60. However, this is not the well-known story: In this version of H.C. Andersen’s life, the author was misplaced at birth and was the son of a count, a count who would later be known as King Christian VIII. The musical questions whether or not Andersen was the son of a king. Was it true or merely a myth – or perhaps it was just a dream? Hans Christian Andersen never doubted himself…
