This is James and Adam Price’s musical version of Alexandre Dumas classic novel. It has undergone a hilarious modernisation where parody and satire are the main ingredients. The show buzzes with entertainment and one is tempted to draw a parallel to Mel Brooks’ universe.
The action takes place in the 1620’ies even though there are plenty of witty modern references throughout. We follow the three musketeers; Athos, Porthos and Aramis who are no longer what they once were but on a second note, are not bothered the slightest about it. They have reached a certain age and are therefore mainly concentrating on just enjoying life.
But then enters the energetic D’Artagnan, who is eager for exploits and show time. He manages to persuade the three lazy men-about-town to join him in the fight against the wicked My Lady and the terribly cruel Kardinal Richelieu.
This jolly and unpretentious musical is truly a potpourri of all styles, rhythms and genres. So it is a hilarious version of the old classic tale that has been spiced up with rumpus music, Danish revue style songs, waltz, tango, salsa, film music by Henry Mancini and lastly with inspiration from the Berliner cabaret.
