The story about Carmen, the ultimate femme fatale, is one of the most grandiose love stories in world literature. The French author Prosper Marimée wrote the story in the 1840ies, based on an anecdote told to him by an Andalusian duchess. However, it was George Bizet’s opera from 1875 that resulted in the worldwide fame of the story about the fiery and freedom-loving gipsy girl who drives the men insane. The Dutch dramatist Oscar von Woensel has written a concentrated, exciting and humorous new version of this classic tale. It was performed with great success at The Rogaland Theatre in Norway.
