In Cabaret, a dingy nightclub in Berlin becomes a metaphor for the decadent pre-Hitler years in Germany; alas, a world in despair. When entering the Kit Kat Club, every one is bid Willkommen, Bienvenue, Welcome by the bisexual host and the main show is performed by the young British and life indulging singer and dancer, Sally Bowles. She has only got eyes for the American author Cliff, who has travelled to Europe to write a novel. Upon the end of his stay, he wants to bring Sally with him to America but she declines, as she loves life in Berlin. So on his train journey, Cliff begins his novel about the singing and dancing people of Berlin, who are so inevitably en route to The Third Reich. The choreographies are used to emphasise the various events throughout the show.
