The play is set in the post-World War 1 period. A priest, suffering from amnesia, turns out to have a double, a ruthless gangster, who kidnaps him in order to have an alibi for his own committed crimes. The two destinies are wrapped up in each other and it becomes difficult to distinguish who is who.
