This is the best play of Abell and our best resistance drama too. At superior level the play deals with the Danish politics at the time before the German occupation. Later it appears to be a premonition of the official politics of Danish cooperation during the German occupation. We are located in an upper class home with a servant girl and a lap dog for the fun of it. Throughout the play, the radio is symbolic of the outside world. The teacher Ann Sophie Hedvig has unexpectedly showed up at her cousin’s – the lady of the house. The evening offers a business visit. Anna Sophie Hedvig remains silent and modest during most of the dinner until the subject of murder is raised. The question is, whether or not it is allowed to defend your own little world before it is attacked, and whether or not it is the little world that jointly creates the big world.

The simple timeless morale is the fact that it might be necessary and useful to fight tyranny with violence while there is still time. The workbag of the grey teacher still contains power which can set off an avalanche of events through the sitting room.
