An island far from civilization, according to atravel brochure one of the last untouched paradises. This is where Karl and Karla, an elderly couple (both teachers), plan to take a vacation from their egos. The same goes for Ansgar and Kevin, two journalists in their early thirties, who are working with registering the abuses of the Third World. The hopes of the four, however, are disappointed: they find no trace of idyll here; Likewise, there are neither child soldiers nor sex tourism to be found here. Instead, there is pure boredom, casual tsunami warnings, outdoor tents from Hannover. And
the natives, concealing naked hatred behind their professional friendliness – because an overnight stay on the island costs almost as much as the local employees earn in a year. Tormented by uneasy feelings, time expands for the tourists, and the tone of their debates intensifies. Old-Left ideals meet neo-liberal ambition, the longing for originality clashes with the wishes for comfort – until they are all taken hostage. A nightmare begins, forcing all 4 of them to check their preconceived opinions – and to release surprising potentials.
