USA’s great author Henry James and his brother the well-known psychologist and philosopher William James had a sister, Alice James, who sank into depression at an early age and built up the courage to commit suicide her whole life…She died from cancer age 43. This play is about the woman, the pain and consciousness of the woman as well as her imagination and it is based freely on Alice’s fate. Sontag mixes the source with Lewis Carroll’s universe in “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and places the story into the wonderful world of fairy tales with crazy tea parties and mattresses that walks. Inventive and surprising – theatrical and poetic.
