Ellen is the executive psychiatrist at a hospital, a well educated middle-aged woman with a father fixation and a little experience of love. Jim is a nurse, recently divorced and obsessed with music. Irene has been in hospital because of a depression. Tage is also hospitalized but with signs of autism; India, another patient who broke her hip at age 15 is about to jump off the roof, thinking she was a garden warbler; a third patient, Philip, is schizophrenic and obsessed with war. Nikoline Werdenlin has based this play on the milieu of psychiatric treatment. Similar to ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, the psychiatric milieu is used to shed light on the supposed normality. Who is really sick and who is not? The patient or the practitioner? Is the condition of the patient really a healthy reaction to a sick society? Delicately balanced on humour and seriousness, the author introduces us to a gallery of wild, wonderful, dark and mild characters.
