Jens Albinus is Danish actor and dramatist and has been educated at school of performing arts at The Aarhus Theatre, Denmark. He has appeared in several films, including Lars von Trier’s THE IDIOTS and DANCER IN THE DARK. He has written plays such as MYSTERIER (1995), based on Knut Hamsung’s novel, NEDERDRÆGTIGHEDENS HISTORIE (1999), based on Ödön von Horvath’s play KASMIR UND KAROLINE and Jorge Luis Borge’s novel “NEDERDRÆGTIGHEDENS VERDENSHISTORIE”, HELENE HIMMELFÆRD (2000) and UDVIDELSEN AF KAMPZONEN, based on Michel Houellebecq’s novel EXTENSION DU DOMAINE DE LA LUTTE. Jens Albinus typically takes the literature as a starting point for his drama. He then works with the basic principle that he calls “awkward theatre”. The awkwardness refers to the conscious kind of naivety. With a child’s complete wonder it is possible to get the point of existential problems without having to go through huge philosophical detours and strict logical dramaturgy. He is interested in the close-ups, the individual situations that constitute coherence, rather than the linear story.
