English text

A reimagining of Euripides’ tragedy The Phoenician Women: Brothers Eteocles and Polynices fight for power in Thebes, which is on the brink of civil war. Their mother, Jocasta, attempts to mediate, but the brothers’ rivalry culminates in mutual destruction. Crimp gives the chorus a central role with contemporary comments that interacts with the main characters. The play merges ancient and modern storytelling, using references and techniques reminiscent of cinematic language and style, hence the title.
