1942: “Richard III”, the Broadway triumph of 1920, is getting a revival and rehearsals are in full swing. The great American actor John Barrymore plays the leading role and is refreshing not only his lines but also episodes from his life and career.
The supporting role, stage manager Frank, is never seen on stage but is communicating with Barrymore through a speaker monitor. The work was performed on Broadway in 1997 and was made into a film in 2011 – both times starring Christopher Plummer as Barrymore.
