Nick Ward blev født i Geelong, Australien, i 1962. Hans første skuespil som forfatter / instruktør vandt tre Fringe First Awards i Edinburgh Festival. Han vandt George Devine Award i 1988 for Apart From George (National Theatre, Edinburgh Festival, Royal Court, a national tour and New York). Han skrev efterfølgende The Strangeness of Others (National Theatre), Trouble Sleeping (National Theatre Studio and Warehouse Theatre Croydon), Splendid Isolation (National Theatre Studio), en bearbejdelse af The Decameron (National Theatre Studio), Eastwood (Man In The Moon Theatre -Time Out Award, 1986), The Cenci (commissioned by Almeida Opera). Han har også skrevet og instrueret to film, Dakota Road (Channel 4) og Look Me in the Eye (BBC). The Cock Tavern Teater i Kilburn har udnævnt Nick Ward som sin første dramatiker, Nov 2009.
